I have been using every trick of the journalistic trade to ferret out information for more than two decades. What employees don't know about dealing with the media can kill a career or an entire company.

Working the media, either print or electronic, is more art than science. The more effectively you manage media contacts, the more accurate, even handed, and sympathetic reporters' attitude and coveragve.

Reporters are not your friends, but they don't have to be your enemies.

HERE'S HOW MEDIA TRAINING WORKS:

You provide background reports, media kits, and media clips to help me learn your industry, your organization, and the audiences you want to reach. We develop a media strategy that identifies key audiences, key media, and key messages.

In a group session or one-on-one, I highlight the essential elements of managing media contacts. Look for lessons in reading the reporter, using body language to emphasize the message, dressing for infallibility, recognizing and countering interview techniques, and seizing unexpected opportunities. 

Finally, I conduct mock interviews for every participant to reinforce the lessons—snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in practice may save you from a real disaster.

Media-savvy organizations treat media training as an investment in future profitability. Who talks to the media depends on the needs of the organization and the personalities of top officials—some CEOs can field the toughest questions with ease and others should never be allowed to speak in public. I am based in San Francisco, California, but am happy to travel to train your vital media contacts in person. Media training is $125 per hour, 4-hour minimum, plus travel and other expenses. I provide handouts, you provide the space and digital projector, if needed. Advance deposits required on all projects
